General comment 2-Ethylhexanol is an organic compound that derives its name from a primary alcohol known as hexan-o-l with an ethyl group at position 2. It is a volatile liquid and has a typical odor that is characteristic of an aldehyde. Butyraldehyde is produced from the hydroformylation of propylene. It is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of diverse alcohols such as butanol and 2-ethylhexanol. It is also used in the synthesis of butyric acid by oxidation. It appears as a dark brown liquid with an aromatic odor. Insoluble in water and less dense than water. |
