Use advice for data set | When utilizing this data set, users should consider the 'cradle to gate' system boundary which incorporates the transportation of materials, batching, mixing, coal gas preparation, drying, sintering, immersion, baking, coarse grinding, hooping, assembly, fine grinding, lubrication, and packaging processes of the Al2O3–C refractory production. Note that the environmental impacts of production equipment manufacturing and plant construction are not included as they are deemed to have relatively low environmental impacts. For life cycle analysis, users of this data set should make sure to include these boundary conditions and may need to adjust or supplement with other data if looking at the full life cycle ('cradle to grave') of the product. |
Technical purpose of product or process | Aluminum carbon refractory materials, represented by this data set, are utilized primarily in the metallurgical industry for lining high-temperature furnaces. These materials are essential for constructing furnaces used in the steel-making process because of their high thermal stability and resistance to chemical reactions with molten metals. The Al2O3–C refractory products in this study are specifically employed for their insulating properties in furnace linings, where durability and high-temperature performance are critical. |

Sampling procedure | A refractory company in Jinan, Shandong Province, was selected for case study in this research. At present, the company produces 30,000 tons of Al2O3–C refractory products annually. These are sold to more than 50 large- and medium-sized enterprises in different provinces of China. The production and sales volume of refractory products of this company ranked first in China in the past 10 years. The company has about 400 employees and covers an area of about 40,000 m2. | ||||
