Use advice for data set When utilizing the dataset for Life Cycle Assessment, it is critical to consider energy and material usage, construction and transportation activities related to equipment and personnel within the remedial technology assessment. The data collection reflects the system boundaries of standard Danish remediation sites using ISTD with RFH and should be contextualized to similar environmental and technological scenarios. Key aspects such as well field materials, capping construction, air and water treatment systems, electricity consumption, and transportation impacts must be accurately represented and compared to alternative remediation methods.
Technical purpose of product or process The remediation process described is intended for the treatment of contaminated soil through In Situ Thermal Remediation using Radio Frequency Heating (RFH). It is specifically applied to smaller sites, typical of Danish landscape, with areas measuring 180 m2. This soil treatment method is ideal for low-permeability contaminant zones and involves heating the soil to approximately 100°C to enhance the volatilization of pollutants such as perchloroethylene (PCE). The remediation employs wells for heating the soil and for extracting vapors, which are then treated with activated carbon filters.

General comment on data set From Table 1 of the literature (Overview of Test Sites Used as a Basis for Data Collection), it can be seen that, the area and volume of the small site are 180 m2 and 1175 m3. Mass of contaminant is 400 kg of PCE.

Functional Unit Results are presented per unit volume (1 m3 ) of soil remediated in order to compare results for each site.
Technological representativeness
Technology description including background system RFH uses specialized antennas, applied to a low-permeability contaminant source zone. soil is heated to around 100 °C to enhance the volatilization of the chlorinated solvents. In this study, the solvent vapors are assumed to be continuously extracted from the subsurface under vacuum and treated above ground in an activated carbon air filtration unit and, as a proportion of the extracted vapors also condense, the condensed aqueous phase is treated in a separate activated carbon water filtration unit. A vapor cap of 40 cm foam concrete is installed above the heated zone in order to prevent intrusion of rain, create a vapor-tight seal to the surface and to reduce heat loss to the atmosphere. All technologies require the installation of a number of wells to generate soil heating as well as extraction wells.

???common.completenessOtherProblemField??? As a basis for the LCA, a systematic data collection  phase has been carried out in order to establish a baseline dataset for each remediation technology in terms of energy and material consumption, as well as the use of equipment during construction and transportation activities. The assessment covers all aspects of the remediation projects, for example, the well field materials and the establishment of the well field, the capping materials, the air and water treatment systems, the electricity consumption and the transportation of materials and personnel.
