Data selection and combination principles The Chinese process-based life cycle inventory database (CPLCID, 2015), which involves the reviewed process-based LCI of the key enterprises of China (e.g., aluminum production(Hong et al., 2012), sodium hydroxide production (Hong et al., 2014a) coalbased electricity generation (Cui et al., 2012), solar power (Chen et al., 2016b), cement (Chen et al., 2015), paper industry (Hong and Li, 2012; Cui et al., 2011), coke (Hong et al., 2015a), chemicals (Hong et al., 2014a; Hong and Li, 2013; Hong and Xu, 2012; Hong et al., 2015b) was used in this study. Additionally, road transportation (Chen et al., 2015), bioenergy generation (Hong et al., 2014b, 2016), municipal solid waste disposal (Hong et al., 2010), and wastewater treatment (Xu et al., 2015) also involved in the CPLCID database. Key factors were identified, and important data were replaced with the updated statistics in the yearbook of Nonferrous Metals Industry of China (2013) (i.e., import and export of aluminum, energy consumption), and Chinese Industrial Information Network (http://www.chyxx.com/) (i.e., primary aluminum and aluminum oxide annual production at provincial level).
