General comment | Thiourea is a colorless crystalline bitter compound analogous to and resembling urea that is used especially as a photographic and organic chemical reagent. It may be produced either by fusion of ammonium thiocyanate or by the interaction of hydrogen sulfide and cyanamide. Thiourea was the drug initially used to treat Graves' disease; however, it had considerable toxicity. It is also used in photography, inorganic synthesis, and to accelerate the vulcanization of rubber. |
