General comment | Xanthate usually refers to a salt of xanthic acid. It also refers to the anion [R−O−CS2]− and may refer to an ester of xanthic acid. Xanthate is a flotation collector of sulfide ore. Its chemical name is xanthate or alkyl dithiocarbonate. Much of the xanthate use is in flotation systems, where selectivity between sulfide minerals is not an issue and the goal is to recover most of the sulfides and precious metal values. |
