General comment | Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are emitted as gases from certain solids or liquids. They include a variety of chemicals, some of which may have short- and long-term adverse health effects. VOCs are emitted by a wide array of products and are present mostly as gases at room temperature. They can cause harm to human health because of how easily they can vaporize and float into the air. Some VOCs are harmful by themselves, including some that cause cancer. |
