General comment | Tributyl phosphate, commonly known as TBP, is an organophosphorus compound. This colourless, odorless liquid is used as an extractant and a plasticizer. It is an ester of phosphoric acid with n-butanol. It is used in the extraction of uranium and plutonium salts from reactor effluents, as a solvent for nitrocellulose and cellulose acetate, and as a heat-exchange medium. It is also used in processing transuranium elements and removing them from wastewaters of the nuclear industry. |
