General comment | Chemical oxygen demand (COD) is the estimate of oxygen required for the portion of organic matter in wastewater that is subjected to oxidation. It refers to the amount of oxygen required for the chemical oxidation of organic and inorganic components present in wastewater with oxidising agents such as potassium permanganate, potassium dichromate, etc. The COD test helps to identify toxic conditions and the appearance of biologically resistant organic substances. |
