General comment | Stainless steel is a family of alloy steels containing 10 to 30 percent chromium and low carbon. It has remarkable resistance to corrosion and heat due to the presence of chromium and other elements. There are five major groups of stainless steel: austenitic, ferritic, martensitic, duplex, and precipitation-hardening. It is an alloy of iron that is resistant to rusting and corrosion. It contains at least 10.5% chromium and usually nickel, and may also contain other elements, such as carbon, to obtain the desired properties. |
