General comment | Aluminum foil, also informally called tin foil, is aluminum prepared in thin metal leaves. It is pliable and can be readily bent or wrapped around objects. Thin foils are fragile and are sometimes laminated with other materials such as plastics or paper to make them stronger and more useful. It is used especially to cover and wrap food. It's made by rolling large slabs of aluminum until they are less than 0.2 millimeters thick. Aluminum foil is 98.5% aluminum with the balance primarily from iron and silicon to give strength and puncture resistance. |
