General comment | Corn slurry, a by-product of corn starch production, is made from corn kernels, water, and corn juice. To produce corn starch, corn kernels are first soaked in sulfurous acid, and the soaked liquid is concentrated to produce a brownish-yellow liquid called corn slurry, which contains rich soluble proteins, growth factors, and some precursor substances, with about 40% to 50% solid content. It has a slightly salty taste and is widely used as an organic nitrogen source for microbial growth. It also promotes the biosynthesis of antibiotics such as penicillin. |
