Sum Formula | La2O3 |
General comment | Lanthanum oxidizes in air at room temperature to form La 2 O 3. It slowly reacts with water and quickly dissolves in diluted acids, except hydrofluoric acid (HF) because of formation of a protective fluoride (LaF 3) layer on the surface of the metal. Lanthanum (III) oxide, also known as lanthana, is an inorganic compound containing the rare earth element lanthanum and oxygen. It is used in some ferroelectric materials, as a component of optical materials, and is a feedstock for certain catalysts. |
