General comment | Total phosphorus (TP) is a measure of phosphorus in lakes, including both ortho-phosphate and the phosphorus in plant and animal fragments suspended in lake water. TP levels are stable and an annual mean can indicate the lake's water quality and trophic state. Phosphorus is a nutrient found naturally at low levels in water, plants, and animals, but is also found in fertilizers, cleaners, and wastewater. TP is a crucial evaluation parameter for surface water quality assessment and is one of the primary causes of eutrophication. |
