General comment Hazardous solid waste is a term used in the hazardous waste management program. It is defined by the EPA's hazardous waste regulations under RCRA Subtitle C. This type of waste can cause substantial harm to human health and the environment if improperly handled. It can take the form of solids, liquids, sludges, or contained gases, and is primarily generated by chemical production, manufacturing, and other industrial activities. A solid waste derived from a hazardous waste is not considered hazardous when it no longer exhibits any characteristic of hazardous waste.
