General comment | Calcium oxide (CaO), also known as quicklime or lime, is a compound of one atom of calcium and one atom of oxygen. It is a white or grayish white solid produced in large quantities by roasting calcium carbonate to drive off carbon dioxide. At room temperature, it will spontaneously absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. It is a widely used material and is a white, caustic, alkaline solid at room temperature. |
