General comment | Activated carbon, also called activated charcoal, is a form of carbon used to filter contaminants from water and air. It is processed to have small, low-volume pores that increase the surface area for adsorption or chemical reactions. It is typically made from wood, but can also be made using bamboo, coconut husk, peat, woods, coir, lignite, coal, pitch, and other dense carbon sources. It is a rough, imperfectly structured kind of graphite with a wide spectrum of pores of varying sizes. |
