General comment Potassium hydroxide is an inorganic compound with the formula KOH, commonly called caustic potash. It is a prototypical strong base with many industrial and niche applications, most of which exploit its caustic nature and its reactivity toward acids. It is a white solid that dissolves in water to form a very alkaline liquid and is used especially in making soap. It is corrosive to tissue and can cause severe burns.
