Potassium dihydrogen phosphate and its isomorphs are representative of hydrogen-bonded materials that possess important piezoelectric, ferroelectric, electrooptic, and nonlinear optical properties. It is used to treat or prevent hypophosphatemia (low blood levels of phosphorus). It is sometimes added to intravenous (IV) fluids given to people who cannot eat or drink anything.
