Gluconic acid is an organic compound with molecular formula C 6 H 12 O 7. It is a white solid that forms the gluconate anion in neutral aqueous solution. The salts of gluconic acid are known as 'gluconates'. It is a naturally occurring organic acid derived from glucose, a simple sugar. In cosmetics, it plays the role of a chelating agent and a perfuming agent. It is a noncorrosive, nontoxic, mild organic acid with a brown clear appearance. It is very soluble in water and has a mild and refreshing taste.
